About
Samuel Pyers
I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker providing trauma therapy in Geelong and across the Bellarine Peninsula, plus via telehealth for clients throughout Australia.
I have worked with clients over the years with varying difficulties, ranging from depression, anxiety, PTSD, CPTSD, sexual abuse, family violence, phobias and many others. Throughout my work I have seen that for most of my clients, trauma has been the underlying cause of their difficulties. So I have trained and focused my work on trauma-focused treatments to help people heal these wounds of the past.
My Approach to Trauma
In my work, I see trauma as any shock that has had a lasting impact on a person's life. Sometimes this can be abuse, loss or injury, however it can also be the things that are missing in life, such as a lack of care and love. Trauma can be one event or many events throughout a person's life. It can come from a big intense experience or many smaller events that over time create a deep wound.
I use an integrated approach to trauma therapy utilising an understanding of the nervous system with parts work (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). See the Therapies and Treatments section below for more information.
Who I Work With
I work with clients over 16 years of age and with a wide range of difficulties. I work with people from all walks of life. I strive to make my practice sensitive and safe to the diversity of humans, including gender, sexuality, culture and religion.
I acknowledge that many groups are ostracised in our society. The First Nations people of this land are continually impacted by the colonial culture and its disconnect from this land. The impacts of colonisation have created a wound in our society, a trauma that needs to be healed collectively. I take responsibility to be part of this healing myself and in my practice as a therapist.
Therapies and Treatments
Moving to the rhythm of your system

Trauma and the nervous system (Polyvagal Theory)
Trauma lives in the body. Polyvagal theory helps us understand how your nervous system responds to threat—whether through fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown. Together, we learn what your nervous system needs to return to safety and regulation.

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)

IFS understands that our mind is made up of different "parts." Together, we get to know the parts of you that are stuck in trauma and help orient them to the present. By bringing compassion to these parts, they can release the burdens they no longer need to carry.

Memory Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps the brain process traumatic memories that have become stuck. Using bilateral stimulation like eye movements or gentle tapping, EMDR allows you to access and heal traumatic material in a safe, contained way.
